Referring to performing on screen (rather than rehearsing) - I found that manipulating the amount of energy I contained inside me or released, and time it took to do it, were wonderful tools to... I cant find the words.. something to with evoming sensation to the viewer (terrible grammar)
yes, in terms of "What performance techniques do you use to energize online movement?" And "what choreographic techniques do you use to create energy of the dance?" - how close or far i am from the camera affects the speed. different size and scale in the frame has a different timing, e.g. it only takes a second to wipe a big finger across the screen, but a body in the distance could take a few minutes to get from edge to edge. and i feel like there are such different connotations in orientations of body to screen and i am dancing but the reading of the movement is affected by the framing.
i am hyper aware of the edges of the small square in front of me. i know that those edges extend outwards as i move away from the computer. i establish this sense of depth in the frame and then i try to forget about the frame and be fully present in my body, hoping that whatever emerges will be received through the frame, and will offer something that feels fresh to the viewer. i have a tendency to reorient the camera in space during performance, to play with different angles on the body, low or high angles, creating diagonals across the frame, or an uneven base.
I have been trusting that the performance techniques I used in the live performance and for dance screen work still work for energizing online movement. Sometimes the attention is tuned towards inhabiting the moment fully, sometimes there is an additional awareness of what the audience/witness is experiencing. This all takes a lot of practice

This opens up to conversations about dance for the screen....?
